Cannes Mandelieu Old River golf course (9 and 18 holes) – opened in 1891 by the Great Duke Michael of Russia, the course has since been a favourite of keen golfers who come to Mandelieu to enjoy its charm and warm weather. Well known for the design of its fairways, bordered with pine trees, the course is the oldest on the Côte d’Azur. When entering and leaving the club, visitors need to take a short boat ride across the Siagne river which crosses the course.

Cannes Riviera golf course (18 holes) - opened in the 20th century, the Riviera golf course is particularly hilly and requires the use of a buggy. Its designer, Robert Trent Jones had to introduce blind holes and raised greens to fit the undertaking landscape.

Grasse Country Club (18 holes) - located 600 metres above sea level, the Grasse Country Club overlooks the bay of Cannes and the Mediterranean sea. The course offers a challenging set of holes, such as 2 and 7, and is bordered by oak trees and stones by way of roughs.

St. Endréol Golf Course (18 holes) - located in the hinterland, the course was designed by Michel Gayon, offering an impressive setting in the ‘garrigue’ and the Var forest.

  • Marseilles and its ‘vieux port’

Capital of Southern Europe, the dynamic and cosmopolitan city of Marseille offers many contrasts with its old picturesque port, the old quarter (Le Panier near the port), its sea cliff and, the wild creeks which open up into the deep blue Mediterranean sea. From the hill of Nôtre Dame de la Garde, patron saint of sailors, which sits imposingly 162 metres above sea level, one can follow in Cézanne’s footsteps to the Estaque or to the Treille at the bottom of the hills where French author Marcel Pagnol spent his childhood. Panoramic views of the city can also be enjoyed from the neighbouring islands such such as ‘Les Iles du Frioul’ and its ‘Château d’If’, famous for the legend of Count Monte Cristo.

At the bottom of the Pharo Palace, which overlooks the Old Port near the beaches, Sofitel Marseilles Vieux Port has been completely renovated to feature the colours of Provence. A haven of calm in the heart of the city, the hotel offers a true Mediterranean ‘art de vivre’ in a relaxing atmosphere.   • Montpellier, the Millennium city

Capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon, the historical city of Montpellier is knows for its impressive architecture. Particular landmarks include the ‘Place de la Comédie’, a popular meeting point for students who gather on the terraces, the Esplanade and the pedestrian streets with their many boutiques. Montpellier is home to a number of universities including the thousand year old Faculty of Medicine, which attracted a number of Catholic, Jewish and Arab doctors in the Middle Ages. The city has since maintained and further developed this tradition of being a popular meeting point and is also home to many festivals and other cultural events.

The Montpellier Massane golf course (9 & 18 holes) - located to the east of the city, the course was designed by Californian architect Ronald Fream, to offer an unforgettable golfing experience. Bordered by clusters of jennet, each hole is individual: fairways undulate, yellow sand bunkers, individually designed greens.

The Grande Motte golf course (42 holes) – a course based on the concept of golf courses designed in Florida, the Grande Motte comprises of 85 hectares of greens and fairways decorated with lakes. Designed by American golf architect Robert Trent Jones Senior, who has completed over 500 golf courses, the course is renowned for being one of the most beautiful in the world and the first of its kind in Europe. The club also includes a golf school.

Nîmes-Campagne Golf Club (18 holes) – designed in 1969 and inspired by international courses, with bunkers, water obstacles and doglegs, the Nîmes-Campagne Golf Club is one of the most beautiful and exclusive golf courses in France. It is set on 52 hectares of undulating land lined by trees.

Thailand: Hua-Hin, a resort favoured by the royal family

Situated on the west bank of Siam Gulf in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, 185 kilometres south west of Bangkok, Hua-Hin is the wildest seaside retreat in Thailand. The resort is very popular with the Thai bourgeoisie and aristocracy who come to enjoy its decadent atmosphere and escape from the heat and bustle of the city.

A small picturesque fishermen’s village, Hua-Hin became very fashionable in the 1920s with the creation of railway sytem by the Royal State Railway, offering direct access to Bangkok. This was soon followed by other developments such as the opening of the magnificent colonial station, the first golf course in Thailand (1924), the building of residential homes and the Railway hotel in 1923, now the Sofitel Central Hua-Hin.

A legendary palace dating back from the 1920s with an elegant colonial architecture, Sofitel Central Hua-Hin was built in this strategic location for the Siamese aristocracy.   • Brazil: Bahia, the land of happiness

With over 930 km of coastline and beaches, the state of Bahia is, as the locals say, the ‘land of happiness’. The capital, Salvador, with its artistic and religious background (365 churches), is one of Brazil’s most popular travel destinations. This colourful city is well known for its particularly festive atmosphere, its culture, with La Capoeira, a danse symbolising the mix of cultures which has become a true art and its cuisine, one of the most authentic and spicy in Brasil.

Recently opened, the Sofitel Conventions & Resort and the Sofitel Suites & Resort are located in the heart of a stunning resort on the famous Costa do Sauípe, in the north east of Bahia. Facing the sea and set amidst lush, exotic and colourful vegetation, the two hotels comprise of 602 rooms and suites targeting both leisure and business travellers.   • El Jadida, Morocco’s own Deauville

Formerly named Mazagan, El Jadida is a seaside resort favoured by Moroccans, famous for its citadel, ramparts and beaches. Lyautey used to refer to it as ‘Morocco’s Deauville’. Located on the Atlantic coast, a few kilometres away from Casablanca, El Jadida is the starting point for excursions to the legendary Moroccan cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Mejnes and Fes.

The luxurious Sofitel Royal Golf El Jadida is located in a private park, 300 metres from the ocean and a few minutes from the city centre.   • Tunisia: the warm climate of Djerba

Djerba is a flat island well known for its warm climate, located south of Tunisia. Djerba owes its charm to the serene countryside, the harmonious architecture and its beautiful and simple mosques. The Menzels, which are thousands years old, are agricultural structures surrounded by small walls of mud planted with cacti or fig trees from Barbaria to protect from the sea winds. Houses are painted white to match the archways and the domes, which reflect the sunshine.

Sofitel Palm Beach Djerba is located on the seashore on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, 10 km from Houmt Souk. 259 rooms including 7 suites and 32 bungalows, each with a terrace or a loggia overlooking the sea, swimming or the garden, 4 restaurants, car rental, fully serviced beach, swimming pool, hydrotherapy centre, fitness centre and nightclub.
